Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Semillon 2022 Sold out

Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Semillon 2022

Florals and lemon grass along with citrus and lime perfumes. The palate is complex with almond and honeysuckle notes as well as buttery textures whilst it provides a tangy long line of acidity and cleansing finish.

Winemaking

Normans Wines is one of the oldest and most respected family names in Australian winemaking. Since 1853, when Jesse Norman planted his first vines in Adelaide, Normans Wines has developed a reputation for premium award-winning Australian wines. Normans Wines is one of Australia’s founding winemakers.

The vineyard source was a single old vineyard in the Rowland Flat region of the Barossa Valley. Above average rainfall in winter made up for the drier Autumn period leading to full healthy canopies. The vineyard escaped most of the hail event in late October although yields were still lower than the average. Slow ripening due to cooler than average conditions made for a slow drawn-out vintage resulting in wines with higher natural acid and rich colours. We destemmed, settled, and fermented using specific yeasts then allowed to rest on lees for a 3-month period then filtered and bottled to retain as much luscious fruit as possible.

Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022

Vivid purple with ruby red hue. Lifted aromas of blackberry fruit are evident initially with milder notes of mulberry and plum fruit overlapping with under lying oak and black pepper.

The vineyard source used for this Shiraz blend came together perfectly being sourced from several different blocks each with their own microclimate and individual differing soil types. Medium bodied with vibrant fruit flavours of dark red and black berry while subtle mulberry and cherry hints fill the mid palate. Soft tannins go well with the elegant under lying taste of oak and spice.

Winemaking

The wine was fermented in small stainless steel fermentors to retain concentrated fruit flavours. To complete the fermentation process and maturation the wine went into mostly old oak barrels with a small percentage of new oak for a period of 12 months. This enabled the oak flavour from the barrels to slowly infiltrate the highly concentrated fruit flavour creating a well balanced yet complex tannin structure. Another stunning Barossa vintage with lower yields but high-quality fruit ensuring it was our selected location for this year’s release.

Cellaring

Drinking magnificently now, but will reward up to 7 years of cellaring.

Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

The Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a beautifully composed expression of Cabernet that unites McLaren Vale generosity with the pedigree of one of Australia’s founding wine families. Normans Wines traces its history back to 1853, when Jesse Norman planted his first vines in Adelaide, establishing a legacy that has spanned generations and helped shape the Australian wine industry. That heritage is clearly reflected in this confident, varietally pure release.

Sourced from two old vine vineyards at the southern end of McLaren Vale, with vines aged up to 49 years, the fruit delivers depth, balance and natural intensity. Fermented in small stainless steel fermenters to preserve clarity and concentration, the wine was then matured for 12 months in predominantly older oak barrels, with a small proportion of new oak used to gently build structure and complexity without masking the fruit.

In the glass, the wine shows a vibrant crimson red with purple hues. Aromas lift with mulberry and ripe cherries, supported by a subtle thread of vanillin oak that adds polish and dimension. The palate is generous and approachable, flowing with ripe plum and blackcurrant fruit across the mid-palate, while hints of milk chocolate add softness and richness. Savoury yet firm tannins are beautifully balanced by fresh acidity and an elegant underlying oak character, creating a Cabernet that is both easy-drinking and impressively layered.

This versatile style shines with richer red meat dishes such as rib-eye steak or slow-roasted beef, where the wine’s dark fruit and structure complement the savoury depth of the dish. It also pairs surprisingly well with tomato-based seafood dishes, particularly pasta with Boston Bay mussels, where the wine’s acidity and supple tannins work harmoniously with the sweetness of the seafood and the richness of the sauce.

Produced by one of Australia’s oldest and most respected wineries, and crafted from mature McLaren Vale vineyards, the Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 delivers depth, balance and regional character in a polished, highly drinkable style that reflects both heritage and modern winemaking precision.

Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2022

The Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2022 is a beautifully expressive take on this classic Rhône-inspired blend, crafted by one of Australia’s founding wine families. Normans Wines traces its lineage back to 1853, when Jesse Norman planted his first vines in Adelaide, establishing a legacy that continues to define premium Australian winemaking. This release draws on that heritage, showcasing both regional authenticity and modern balance.

Sourced from two old vine vineyards at the southern end of McLaren Vale, with an average vine age of 52 years, the fruit brings natural concentration, depth and complexity to the blend. Fermented in small stainless-steel fermenters to preserve purity of fruit, the wine was then matured for 12 months in predominantly older oak barrels with a small portion of new oak, allowing the oak influence to gently integrate while maintaining freshness and varietal clarity.

In the glass, the wine displays a vibrant crimson-purple hue. Aromatically, it lifts with delicate florals of rose petals and violets, layered with bright red berry characters. On the palate, Grenache drives the juicy red fruit core, Shiraz adds mid-palate richness and spice, and Mourvèdre contributes savoury depth and structure. Notes of thyme and sage weave through the fruit, while racy natural acidity and grippy yet polished tannins give energy, balance and length. The result is a poised, medium-bodied red that delivers flavour without heaviness and structure without austerity.

This food-friendly style makes it an ideal match for richly spiced dishes such as butter chicken or laksa, where the wine’s bright fruit and acidity complement warmth and aromatic spice. It is equally at home alongside lamb cutlets served with couscous, where the savoury herbs and supple tannins mirror the dish beautifully.

Produced by one of Australia’s oldest and most respected wineries, and drawn from mature McLaren Vale vineyards, the Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2022 is a confident, expressive blend that celebrates tradition, balance and regional character in every glass.

Normans Peacock McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022

Normans Peacock McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022

The Normans Peacock McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022 is a commanding example of old-vine McLaren Vale craftsmanship, sourced from an iconic single vineyard where the vines average more than 80 years of age. These deep-rooted vines yield fruit of extraordinary concentration and balance, reflecting the true essence of the region. Fermented in small open-top stainless steel vats, with a portion of whole berries retained to preserve aromatic lift, the wine was hand-plunged several times daily over two weeks before being transferred to a mix of one- and two-year-old French and American oak barrels. It then spent a full 24 months maturing undisturbed, allowing natural flavour development before being bottled unfiltered and unfined to maintain purity and texture.

In the glass, it shimmers deep ruby red, exuding dark fruits and dried herbs with hints of mocha, chocolate, and earthy spice. The palate is generous and layered - black cherries, ripe blackberries, and licorice mingle with savoury undertones and dark cocoa. Fine, juicy tannins glide through the finish, giving remarkable length and finesse to this powerful yet beautifully balanced Shiraz. Drinking superbly now, it will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar, gaining further complexity over time.

From one of Australia’s pioneering wineries established in 1853, this vintage continues the proud legacy of Normans Wines. Rated 97 points by Australian Wine Showcase Magazine, while this vintage hails from a near-perfect season recognised by the James Halliday Wine Companion - testament to its pedigree and promise.

Normans Peacock McLaren Vale Shiraz Cabernet 2016

Deep dark red colour, the bouquet of dark fruit and dried herbs and earth on the nose with hints of mocha and chocolate. The palate is full of soft dark fruit flavours when allowed to breathe, there is a natural earth character to the wine reminiscent of a Southern Rhone style blend.

Blackberry, and blackcurrant in highly concentrated amounts, dark plum, liquorice all provide an opulent yet not overpowering feel. Spicy vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco character and a touch of pepper.

Winemaking

Sourced from a single vineyard in the Clarendon sub region of McLaren Vale affectionately known as the "Trophy Block". Fermented in small open top stainless steel with some whole berries, these fermenters ensure we maintain strong fruit flavour from skins and whole berries. Hand plunged two to four times daily for two weeks then transferred into 1 and 2-year-old American and French oak barrels for the remainder of ferment then spent 24 months in the same barrels to allow full flavour development with minimal topping and Sulphur additions before being bottled without fining or filtration. Drinking well now but if you are patient enough to hold off this will develop beautifully in the cellar and build the aged character which has been a hallmark of this wine.
