Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022

Regular price $29.99

Vivid purple with ruby red hue. Lifted aromas of blackberry fruit are evident initially with milder notes of mulberry and plum fruit overlapping with under lying oak and black pepper.

The vineyard source used for this Shiraz blend came together perfectly being sourced from several different blocks each with their own microclimate and individual differing soil types. Medium bodied with vibrant fruit flavours of dark red and black berry while subtle mulberry and cherry hints fill the mid palate. Soft tannins go well with the elegant under lying taste of oak and spice.

Winemaking

The wine was fermented in small stainless steel fermentors to retain concentrated fruit flavours. To complete the fermentation process and maturation the wine went into mostly old oak barrels with a small percentage of new oak for a period of 12 months. This enabled the oak flavour from the barrels to slowly infiltrate the highly concentrated fruit flavour creating a well balanced yet complex tannin structure. Another stunning Barossa vintage with lower yields but high-quality fruit ensuring it was our selected location for this year’s release.

Awards:

94 Point Rated & 5 Stars - Russell Gallagher, Vinomasters.
"Deep crimson with rich saturation. Aromatic depth of blackberry, plum and baking spice with subtle dark chocolate and earth. The palate is richly textured and velvety, delivering layered red currant fruits supported by firm and super vibrant tannins. Regional warmth provides generosity, while pressing acidity maintains compositional balance. Mid-palate density builds gradually before resolving into a long, rounded finish. A classic old-vine McLaren Vale Shiraz combining richness with structural composure."

92 Point Rated - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit.
"It's sweetly ripe and inviting on the nose, with dark cherry, raspberry, star anise, and roasted-nut aromas, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that delivers a plump mouthfeel and fine-grained tannins. Approachable and delightfully drinkable with succulent flavours and spicy nuances, and a fine dry finish. At its best: now to 2030. $30.00. March 2026."
