Normans Chais Clarendon Barossa Valley Shiraz 2023
Normans Chais Clarendon Barossa Valley Shiraz 2023
Established in 1853, Normans presents the 2023 Chais Clarendon Shiraz, a bold expression of Barossa richness and complexity. This celebrated release was fermented in small open-top tanks and matured for 14 months in a combination of American and French oak to ensure seamless integration. Carrying a prestigious pedigree that includes past "Wine of the Year" titles and consistent 95-point ratings, this vintage continues the legacy of one of Australia’s oldest and most respected wineries.
Deep purple in hue, the wine offers a luscious bouquet of ripe blackberry, plum, and red liquorice with hints of warming spice. The palate is youthfully opulent and full-bodied, balancing concentrated dark fruit with savory notes of aniseed and Chinese five-spice. Firm yet rounded tannins lead to a long, persistent finish, making it an ideal partner for hearty dishes like chargrilled steak, slow-roasted lamb shoulder, or aged hard cheeses.

"Youthful inky purple. Waves of blackberry, dark plum, aniseed, liquorice, and earthy leather. The palate is massively concentrated yet refined cascading dark fruits, fig, dark chocolate, and warm spice, with velvety tannins and exceptional mid-palate depth. Bright acidity provides lift, finishing with impressive length and savoury complexity. Epic Depth. Drink 2026 to 2036."
93 Point Rated - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"Wonderfully ripe and inviting, the wine shows Black Doris plum, blackberry, smoked game, fine oak, and toasted spice aromas, followed by a flavoursome palate offering excellent weight and a supple mouthfeel. Beautifully structured by chalky tannins, making it sturdy and robust with a delectable finish. At its best: now to 2035. $46.00. www.normanswines.com. April 2026."
