Old Vine
Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Vibrant crimson red/purple. Mulberry and cherries are the highlight of fruit aromas with a hint of vanillin oak which adds complexity to the bouquet. This blend sourced from vineyards in the McLaren Vale region showcases Cabernet Sauvignon in all its varietal glory. The fruit flavours of dark red berry and plum fill the mid palate whilst soft tannins go well with the elegant under lying taste of oak to make this a very easy drinking Cabernet with great depth and complexity.
Winemaking
Sourced from two vineyards located at the southern end of McLaren Vale from old vines aged up to 64 years of age. The wine was fermented in small stainless steel fermenters to retain concentrated fruit flavours. To complete the fermentation process and maturation the wine went into mostly old oak barrels with a small percentage of new oak for a period of 12 months. This enabled the oak barrels to slowly infiltrate the highly concentrated fruit flavour creating a well-balanced yet complex tannin structure.

Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
Deep purple with a red hue in colour. Showing its youth at this early stage of its development with raspberry, plum and confectionery notes reflecting the mixed spice of oak and underlying Christmas pudding which gives further characters of age.
Lovely spices appear when allowed to breathe while the dusty fine-grained tannins and oak provide a bit of luxury and softness. Some earthy characters of bark and leather give an interesting side note to the flavour of this Shiraz. It is a complex fruit driven style with a wonderful backbone of oak and tannin that will reward those who allow it to breathe prior to drinking.
Winemaking
Shiraz from two selected vineyards were hand-picked and shipped to the winery and worked through the de-stemmer. The fruit was crushed and had a few days cold soaking. We allowed natural yeast fermentation and used a careful regime of plunging and drained and returns to get the right balance of extraction. The wine was carefully pressed after 10 days on skins and allowed to complete malolactic fermentation prior to barrel aging then selected barrels were bottled with minimal fining or filtration.

Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022
Vivid purple with ruby red hue. Lifted aromas of blackberry fruit are evident initially with milder notes of mulberry and plum fruit overlapping with under lying oak and black pepper.
The vineyard source used for this Shiraz blend came together perfectly being sourced from several different blocks each with their own microclimate and individual differing soil types. Medium bodied with vibrant fruit flavours of dark red and black berry while subtle mulberry and cherry hints fill the mid palate. Soft tannins go well with the elegant under lying taste of oak and spice.

Another stunning Barossa vintage with lower yields but high-quality fruit ensuring it was our selected location for this year’s release.

"Beautifully fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows dark berry, cured meat, clove and toasted nut aromas. The palate is equally appealing with good weight and plump mouthfeel, delightfully supported by silky texture and fine-grained tannins. Balanced and harmonious with a lengthy tasty finish. At its best: now to 2030."

Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Semillon 2022
Florals and lemon grass along with citrus and lime perfumes. The palate is complex with almond and honeysuckle notes as well as buttery textures whilst it provides a tangy long line of acidity and cleansing finish.

Normans Wines is one of the oldest and most respected family names in Australian winemaking. The vineyard source was a single old vineyard in the Rowland Flat region of the Barossa Valley. Above average rainfall in winter made up for the drier Autumn period leading to full healthy canopies. The vineyard escaped most of the hail event in late October although yields were still lower than the average. Slow ripening due to cooler than average conditions made for a slow drawn-out vintage resulting in wines with higher natural acid and rich colours. We destemmed, settled, and fermented using specific yeasts then allowed to rest on lees for a 3-month period then filtered and bottled to retain as much luscious fruit as possible.

Wonderful white peach, nashi pear, honey dew melon and a clear crisp line of acid which is kept in balance with the wonderful complexity derived from extended time on lees which with further time will develop further creamy characters. This fruit driven Chardonnay is beautifully balanced with fresh flavours of citrus and tropical fruit. It is an elegant wine with a clean and precise texture that is to be enjoyed now.
